re: Galad én Estel Code of Conduct

Galad én Estel is a Lord of the Rings Online kinship, active on the Landroval server. The kinship is open to all races and classes of the Free People of Middle-Earth, provided that the player behind the console is older than 18 years of age. We are here to create a friendly, mature environment for all active players of LOTRO, help newbies to the game to get over their first steps in Middle-Earth, and to support each other for individual and group quests in-game. While the goal of our kinship doesn't aim solely at endgame content, we maintain alliances to provide access to such content to our members and allow them to stay active and contributing members of our community.

To become a member of Galad én Estel players have to contact any officer in-game. As an option it is possible to apply using our kinship site - in that case leave us some contact so we can find you in-game. For full details of the aforementioned procedure consult the section 'About membership' below.

What we DO expect from our members:
- Friendly and respectful behavior inside the kinship (kinchat channel) as well as representation of the kinship towards other players online, who aren't members of Galad én Estel. Be aware, that on every step in Middle-Earth you represent your kinship
- Although Galad én Estel gathers people from all around the globe, the kinship chat remains strictly English. Please, leave it so. Even if you have fellow countrymen (with a bit hazy English knowledge), don't use kinship channel to communicate in any other language. On the other hand - for native English speakers - any forms of 'grammar Nazism' in kinship chat are not tolerable.  Those who don't have English as their native tongue are trying their best to ensure communications stay universal. Don't poke fun or be a nuisance of someone trying to learn
- Being active players of LOTRO. Well, we really appreciate this of our members, although we prefer real life over the game. So yes, be active playing LOTRO and enjoy spending all your free time with us, but not for the price of issues and troubles in your real life
- Joining your kinies: don't hesitate to ask on kinship chat, if somebody else has to run a certain deed, quest or instance you're ahead of. We have a lot of players who run more characters on miscellaneous levels. Some of them could welcome your offer for fellowship
- Participating in kinship-organized actions; of course with full respect to your real life activities and chores
- Registering on kinship website http://galadenestel.guildlaunch.com and participating on the forums ... this request isn't mandatory, but highly recommended. If you - for any reason - don't like to do so, feel free to stay off the website
- This kinship is the community of people helping each other in case of need. The willingness to help has - of course - the other side too: we expect from *you* to help to other people in case of *their* need.

What we DON'T expect from our members:
- Bringing up any form of drama into kinship. Please, leave all your troubles from real life before the logon screen. If you have a hard day behind you, feel free to just stay silent or take short break to calm down. If you feel the need to behave dramatically for roleplaying purpose, your motives must be clear to other kinship members online and addressed only to your roleplaying partner. Even then i recommend to reduce them to absolute minimum
- Any form of harassing other kinnies (with any motives behind) and/or spamming the kinchat
- Begging - with any motives behind it and it doesn't matter what is begged for. If you beg, we see it as laziness. Please, don't
- Abuse of help offered by other kinship members. We are a fellowship of players in the same game and it can happen - to everyone - that he needs a help to finish certain quest or instance. As such we will help to any of our members in trouble. But it isn't our interest to support reckless starts of impossible-to-finish instances and generally power-levelling in any form
- Asking for money. Neither in-game currency or real life money, this is considered to be a big no-no inside the kinship
- Violating the Terms of use (aka Turbine's License Agreement for LOTRO) in any way

What our members can expect from us:
- Community of friendly people enjoying the same game as you do
- Support in most of the situations anybody can meet in the Middle-Earth. Beginning with advice and ending with help inside the instances, just don't hesitate to ask your kinnies. On the other hand there is some level of sanity required ... don't expect that everybody will simply drop whatever they're doing and rush to help you with your problem. And sometimes it needs certain level of planning and organization to bring together enough people on particular level to help you.
- Help with providing gear and/or weapons under the terms discussed further

About kinship chat:
Members are encouraged to use kinship chat for whatever reason they need during their gameplay session. On the other hand they have to keep in mind, that kinship chat is accessible by all other members online. So outside of general politeness, tolerance and (at least) PG-13 clean chat, members are asked to avoid:
     - politics and politic-connected matters
     - religion and religious matters
     - sex, gender bias, gender orientation and other 'adult' matters
     - race-related matters ... no derogatory racist comments, insults or jokes are to be tolerated
     - any other pejorative writings into kinchat, either personal or heading towards group(s) of people
     - foul language and cursing

About crafting:
Our kinship has some players dedicated to crafting who are members of their crafting guilds on very decent level of standing. They can (and we hope they will) craft weapons and other equipment for other kinship members too. On the other hand, crafting and especially gathering of raw materials is pretty a time-consuming process in LOTRO. For that reason it's good to respect the following rules:
     - plan for the future .. If you see, that you will hit some important level (requiring new equipment) within (a few) days, ask for your new gear in advance
     - the member asking for new gear is always responsible for supplying all the materials, tokens and critical components needed. Your craftsman will gladly give you a full list
     - some particular recipes (typically 1A LIs recipes) are pretty expensive. Be ready to offer to your craftsman financial compensation to cover his expenses
     - another reason for planing in advance is because of cooldown on some recipes. Typically 1A LIs have 1 week (6 days and 18 hours) of cooldown. Be aware of this

About membership, inactivity and leaving:
Here is the full procedure regarding membership in Galad én Estel: after entering the kinship our new members stay with us on recruit rank usually for 1 month of grace period. This time can be shortened up to 2 weeks in some special cases (based on activity of the member and other criteria). Outside of grace period it is required, that particular member has at least one character (who is in kinship) on level 20 and more. Once all these criteria are met, you can be promoted to full member with full rights. Membership status is awarded to all characters of particular member under condition, that they maintain a link to their 'main character' in kinship note.
Just a side note to accepting members who are younger than required 18 years of age: the principle is simple, you need a patron. You need somebody, who is in age 18+ and who will take-over the responsibility for your future actions in the kinship. It could be either your parent, sibling or another family member from your real life, or another kinship member - after getting an agreement from kinship leader. In any case the appropriate and mature behavior is expected
Although we like to have active members playing on daily basis, we fully respect, that it isn't always possible for everybody. In case you leave LOTRO for some longer time and you *do* know about it in advance, it is good idea to inform leader or officers about it either in-game, or using kinship forums. We don't boot our members for inactivity, but in case you stay inactive for more than 90 days (without leaving a word about it), you will be demoted to recruit rank. When returning back, you can ask for restoration of your previous membership status.
We understand, that our kinship doesn't have to fit to everybody. If that is your case and you decide to leave, please do it in some appropriate and civil way. On the other hand we would appreciate - in case our members decide to leave - to know the reasons leading them to their decision. Just a brief word to any officer online or letter will do. In case somebody decides to leave LOTRO overall, we ask them kindly to remove all characters from our kinship.
Please, be aware, that LOTRO is a game, relying heavily on written communication. Any nuances in the voice, facial expression, or gestures explaining the other person's intentions are missing in this form of communication. In addition, there are a lot of people, who are not native English speakers, so they don't have to always type into kinchat what they exactly intend. The things can get misunderstood and people can get upset. If you feel yourself being in such a situation, please, use your rights of the kinship member and complain. Address officers being online at the moment, address the kinship leader. They are the authorities to solve your particular problem - not the rest of the kinship. If nobody else is present, save a log from problematic discussion and mail it to them directly. I mean ... we're the community of adult people respecting certain rules in communication between us. We can enforce it, even for a price of less popular actions. But we will not chase down the people, who left the kinship in magnificent style due to possible misunderstanding, just to ask them to come back.
